Harmonies of the Highlands: Mahler Players’ Chamber Season

Mahler Players’ season kicks off with a bang on Saturday 16th September at Inverness Cathedral, delving into the depths of the Sixth Symphony, affectionately known as the “Tragic”. Under the skillful direction of the talented conductor Rob Farmer, this rendition is reimagined for a chamber orchestra, promising a unique and unforgettable performance that simply cannot be missed. This symphony is a masterpiece that takes you on a deeply emotional journey through triumph and tragedy, from the tender dedication to Alma Mahler in the first movement to the heartrending blows of the grand finale.

But that’s just the beginning. The Mahler Players have an exciting lineup in store as the season unfolds. December brings a focus on the mesmerizing world of Richard Wagner, with two concert performances of the thrilling third Act from his epic opera, Siegfried.

As spring arrives in May, the Mahler Players will once again take the stage, this time with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony. This symphony, often referred to as the “Pastoral,” invites you to bask in the beauty of nature through music. Beethoven’s genius shines as he paints vivid musical landscapes, and this performance promises to be a celebration of the natural world. Alongside Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, the Mahler Players will showcase two works by Igor Stravinsky, adding a modern and vibrant twist to the classical repertoire.

Founded in 2013 by the visionary conductor Tomas Leakey, the Mahler Players are a chamber orchestra nestled in the scenic Highlands of Scotland. While their core members call the Highlands home, they are joined by musicians from all corners of Scotland, and beyond, creating a diverse and dynamic ensemble that truly represents the spirit of music’s universal language.
