Clara Polscher was a German mezzo-soprano. She caused some furore at the end of the 19th century. She was from Leipzig.
She sang mainly in Germany (Leipzig, Baden-Baden, Magdeburg, Munich), but there are also performances in Innsbrück and Copenhagen. For example, she performed at the founding party of the Grieg Association in Leipzig on 17 May 1892. She then sang songs by Borghild Holmsen, Christian Sinding and Edward Grieg, probably with Borghild Holmsen at the piano. In January 1894 she was found in Norway. In the meantime, she had made a concert trip with Gisela Gulyas.
She also taught, the originally Scottish singer Elizabeth Carrick had taken lessons with her.
Herman Hutter (1848-1926) dedicated Three Gesänge für eine Frauenstimme nach Gedichten von W. Hertz from around 1892 to her.

Was ist nun ge-mahlt und was ge-webt“, durften die Münchner am 10-04-1888 nach der Premiere der komischen Oper Die drei Pintos grübeln: Gustav Mahler hatte den von Carl Maria von Weber hinterlassenen Torso vervollständigt. Es war das erste Mal, dass man hierzulande den Namen Gustav Mahler und eine seiner Kompositionen vernahm.
Fast ein Jahrzehnt verstrich, bis München Bekanntschaft mit dem Dirigenten Gustav Mahler machte, rühmende Fama ging dem Debütanten voraus. Als er am 24-03-1897 ans Pult der neuen Tonhalle trat, applaudierten ihm die Musiker des von Franz Kaim (1856-1901) gegründeten Münchner Philharmonischen Orchesters, „was hier noch nicht vorgekommen ist“. Er begann mit Beethovens V., dann begleitete er Clara Polscher bei Liedern am Flügel – Ersatz für die ursprünglich vorgesehenen zwei Sätze aus seiner III. Die Post hatte ihm einen Streich gespielt: „Heute früh kamen die Orchesterstimmen an, nun fehlte mir die Partitur…“
