Every July we shift the normal Saturday timeslot of The Mahler Hour to commemorate Mahler’s birthday on July 7, 1860.

On July 2022 the broadcast is introduced by Marina Mahler and features a historic performance of Mahler’s Second Symphony.

The recording was made on January 7, 2020, after the uprisings in Santiago, Chile the previous fall.

This “Concert for Brotherhood” consisted of 140 orchestral musicians, many of whom were students, and over 200 mostly amateur singers.

The venue was the Mapocho Train Station, admission was free, and 6,000 people packed the hall.

The entire production was led by the Chilean conductor and violinist, Alejandra Urrutia, who is interviewed live at the beginning of the webcast. It is a performance to behold, simply electrifying.
