We are delighted to share the exciting news that the “Viennese Vocality around 1900” colloquium is set to take place on the 15th and 16th of September. Hosted at both the La Grange-Fleuret Music Library in Paris and the Royaumont Foundation, this event is an integral part of the Royaumont Festival.
Curated by Anna Stoll Knecht and Thomas Vernet, the colloquium is a captivating journey into Vienna’s vocal landscape at the turn of the century. Researchers and musicians will gather to explore the various dimensions of vocal expression during that era.
The event will delve into captivating questions such as the treatment of the voice in the works of Gustav Mahler, Hugo Wolf, and Oskar Posa. Attendees will also have the opportunity to witness the evolution of the Wagnerian lyrical tradition between Bayreuth and Vienna and explore the vocal practices of the period.
The colloquium will feature a range of sessions including panel discussions, a roundtable and a worshop. Esteemed musicologists like Morten Solvik, Anna Stoll Knecht, Emlyn Stam, and Nicolas Boiffin will engage in dialogue with accomplished artists such as Christian Immler, Andreas Frese, Edwin Fardini, Juliette Journaux, and Benjamin Garzia.
The event reaches its crescendo on September 16th with two concerts at the Abbaye de Royaumont, featuring works by Mahler, Zemlinsky, Schönberg, Gund, and Schreker, Korngold and Berg
