Gustav Mahler aged 31. 17. Budapest. In February Graf Geza Vasony-Teo von Zichy (1849-1924) became the new head of the Royal Opera and plotted to remove Mahler, who, unbeknownst to zichy, had already, two weeks earlier, secretly signed a contract to become principal conductor at the Stadttheater beginning in March. 18. He assumed custody of Justine (Ernestine) Rose-Mahler (1868-1938) (age 20) and his other brothers and sister: Alois (Louis) Mahler (1867-1931) (age 22), Otto Mahler (1873-1895) (age 16) and Emma Marie Eleanor Rosé-Mahler (1875-1933) (age 14).
